Updated kernel packages that fix several bugs are now available for Red HatEnterprise Linux 6.5 Extended Update Support.

The kernel packages contain the Linux kernel, the core of any Linuxoperating system. This update fixes the following bugs:* Prior to this update, a guest-provided value was used as the head length ofthe socket buffer allocated on the host. If the host was under heavy memory loadand the guest-provided value was too large, the allocation could have failed, resulting in stalls and packet drops in the guest’s Tx path. With this update, the guest-provided value has been limited to a reasonable size so that socketbuffer allocations on the host succeed regardless of the memory load on thehost, and guests can send packets without experiencing packet drops or stalls.(BZ#1092353)* Due to several race condition flaws in the SUNRPC code, I/O operations betweenan NFS server and client could hang under heavy load. These flaws have beenfixed, and I/O operations no longer hang under these scenarios. (BZ#1099548)* Prior to this update, a control message was not being sent to the server whenthe client released the GGS context on an unmount of a secure NFS file system. Now a control message is sent during the unmount, allowing the server to cleanup its state. (BZ#1126415)* Previously, recovery of a double-degraded RAID6 array could, under certaincircumstances, result in data corruption. This could happen because the mddriver was using an optimization that is safe to use only for single-degradedarrays. This update ensures that this optimization is skipped during therecovery of double-degraded RAID6 arrays. (BZ#1131395)* A deadlock was found in the way InfiniBand network cards are brought down. Ifthe user tried to deactivate such a card soon after it was activated, thecommand hung. In the updated version, the deadlock has been fixed, andInfiniBand network cards can be brought down anytime. (BZ#1131520)* Previously, the kernel could crash while flashing the firmware for GXPadapters on IBM POWER8 systems. The underlying code has been fixed, and it isnow possible to flash the firmware correctly. (BZ#1148527)* Due to a race condition flaw between the sock_queue_err_skb function andsk_forward_alloc handling in the socket error queue (MSG_ERRQUEUE), the kernelcould occasionally, e.g. when using the Precision Time Protocol (PTP),incorrectly track allocated memory for the error queue, in which casea traceback would occur in the system log. With this update, the racecondition flaw has been fixed, and memory integrity is now kept and no suchtraceback appears in the log. (BZ#1155426)* Prior to this update, a killed process might have experienced a soft lockupin the nfs_iocounter_wait function. While waiting for I/O operations tocomplete on an NFS server, the NFS client checked the wrong condition and neverreturned. Consequently, the system became unresponsive for a certain amountof time. With this update, the code has been modified to avoid the lockupin the described situation, and the system does not hang. (BZ#1156064)* Previously, a kernel panic occasionally occurred if a process reading from alocked NFS file was killed and the lock was not released properly before theread operations finished. Consequently, the system crashed. The code handlingfile locks has been fixed, and instead of halting, the system now emitsa warning about the unreleased lock. (BZ#1156066)* When multiple processes tried to read from one NFS directory tree mountedusing UDP, a deadlock could occur. As a result, the NFS clients could get lockedup. With this update, the code that led to the deadlock has been removed, andparallel reads from NFS over UDP are now possible with no risk of a lockup.(BZ#1156282)All users are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which fixthese bugs. The system must be rebooted for this update to take effect.
