Warning: graphic content. A South Carolina police officer was fired Wednesday after being charged with murder in connection to the video-taped shooting of a man fired upon eight times in the back as he fled.
Michael Slager, 33, was accused Tuesday of killing Walter Scott, 50, following a traffic stop for an allegedly broken taillight. Scott, who had a warrant out for his arrest, fled the Mercedes-Benz he was driving. He was chased into a field, and the officer said he fired his Taser after a brief struggle, police said.
“Shots fired and the subject is down. He took my Taser,” the officer reported on the police radio.
