[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R46-XTqXkzE?start=0&wmode=transparent&w=640&h=480]A 10-year Texas police veteran resigned Tuesday, days after video surfaced of him roughing up a 15-year-old girl in an incident the local police chief said was “indefensible.”
McKinney Police Cpl. David Eric Casebolt, who had received death threats, resigned amid an internal investigation and could face criminal charges. Police Chief Greg Conley said at a news conference that the officer’s behavior was not only “indefensible” but was “out of control,” local media said.
The development highlights the public’s newfound love affair with filming the police and came a day after a South Carolina police officer was indicted on murder charges following a bystander’s video showing the officer shooting a fleeing suspect in the back. Without footage of police officers brutalizing the public, there’d likely be no consequences for that behavior.
