Letv’s newest smartphone, the Le 1s, is the latest phone from China’s largest online video company. While it very much resembles its predecessor, the Le 1, Letv has added improvements such as a slightly faster processor and more storage space. It will retail for 1,099 yuan in China (converting directly to about $175, £115 or AU$280).

Other specs of the phone include a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5.5-inch full-HD display. It runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop, but Letv has a custom skin that puts all the apps on the home screen, as with Apple’s iOS. Because it’s designed with Letv’s vast online media library in mind, the app drawer icon has been replaced with a shortcut to quickly access the Letv streaming app.

The 5.5-inch phone easily fits into your pocket. In fact, it’s smaller than the Apple iPhone 6S Plus.

The phone supports dual-SIM slots, with one slot for a micro-SIM and the other slot for a nano-SIM. Unlike other Chinese dual-SIM phones, you can’t use a microSD card in the micro-SIM slot to expand storage space.

If you didn’t know better, would probably guess this design is something the company borrowed from Apple — though in my opinion, it seems to resemble the OnePlus 2.

Letv claims this is the world’s first mirror fingerprint sensor, but couldn’t exactly tell me what the mirrored finish actually offers over current matte designs. It does look good, and could serve as a pimple checker in a pinch, I suppose.

The touch-sensitive buttons are usually hidden, and aren’t very visible in bright light. It does, however, give the phone a clean look.

The power and volume buttons are located on the right side of the phone, and there’s also an infrared remote control port that you can use to control your television set as well.

The Letv Le 1s is an interesting low-cost phone that offers pretty good value and hardware, but availability outside of China is still unknown.
