When the new trailer for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” debuted during a football game last week, the Internet went crazy, with parts of it even crumbling under the weight of advanced ticket sales made available the same day.
Then, like an imperial raid on Hoth, mashups, memes and tributes — including a revised movie poster featuring the Star Wars character everyone loves to hate and a mega-trailer supercut — started invading the Net.
One of the newest tributes to the upcoming film boldly goes where no mashup has yet gone. And yes, I know I’m mixing franchises there, but that’s exactly the point.
Eye-catching images from the third ‘Star…
Released Tuesday from, of all unlikely sources, tool-part purveyor MMToolParts, the video clip takes the soundtrack from the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” trailer, edits it a bit and lays it on top of a slightly edited “Batman v Superman” trailer for the Zack Snyder movie being released in March 2016. MMToolParts has shared the clip exclusively with CNET and we’re sharing it with you above.
It’s a bit shocking how the trailers fit together. The images and soundtrack link up so well that at one point, as we hear Han Solo say “the dark side,” we see Batman, and as he says “the Jedi,” we see Superman, which definitely shows how the guys at MMToolParts view the upcoming clash.
Of course, there was some editing, but all it takes is a look at the “Star Wars” trailer and the “Superman v Batman” trailer to see that the amount of fiddling wasn’t extensive. There just must be something in epic tales of awesome that go well together. Either that, or anything the Star Wars franchise touches turns to carbonite, or um, I mean, gold.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” opens in theaters in Europe and Australia on December 17 and in the US on December 18.
