Mark Hamill is finally coming clean about the lack of Luke Skywalker in trailers and posters for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Well, not really, but the face behind the legendary Lucasian hero confirmed that he is keeping a secret about his role in Episode VII.
“I have something coming out where there’s an amount of money that if it leaks because of me, I don’t get that payment,” he said in an interview with PC Gamer posted Thursday.
Notice that Hamill doesn’t specifically say what project he’s referring to, but he then goes on to tell a story about how he successfully kept the secret that Darth Vader is Luke’s father, keeping it even from Harrison Ford and his wife for many months. But then he says, “Now it’s happening all over again. I’m not even authorized to tell you I’m in Episode VII, it’s all secret.”

OK, so he’s not authorized to confirm that he’s in “The Force Awakens,” but wouldn’t the only reason he’s not authorized to confirm whether he’s in the movie be that he’s actually in the movie?
Maybe not, actually. Presumably Hamill is privy to insider information about the film, so it makes sense he’d be asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement whether he’s in the movie or not.

While he might know where the canon is heading next, he also admits that he’s forgotten details about where it’s been.
“The fans are much more knowledgeable about this sort of thing than I am. I hate to admit that I flunked a Star Wars trivia quiz, but I did. Who knew what Han Solo was smuggling?”

Hamill says his kids knew the answer to that one, even though he was stumped.
“If it was multiple choice, I might have done better,” he says.
Check out the entire interview, which was filmed on the set where Hamill was shooting scenes for a new game, Star Citizen’s Squadron 42. He covers other parts of his fascinating and wide-ranging career from games to “Star Wars” and voicing the animated version of “The Joker.”
