We’re all pretty much obsessed with our phones these days. They’re generally the first thing we reach for in the morning, and many of us, myself included, fall asleep at night only after checking our email and social-media accounts one more time in bed.
What if we obsessively checked our snail mail like we check our email? A comedy skit from YouTube filmmaker David Elmaleh posted Monday takes a hilarious look at the crazy behaviors that might ensue.
For instance, when you and your partner lie down in bed at the end of the day, your partner might want to nod off while you want to read your email. With a smartphone, you can turn off the light and still read your email, but that gets a bit problematic with snail mail.
Similarly, the skit shows that it’s super awkward to check your snail mail in the middle of a conversation with someone, especially if you’re away from home. Imagine having a deep conversation with a friend, then taking 20 minutes to jog home and back just to see if something new has magically appeared in your mailbox. Pretty rude and disruptive, right?
Fortunately, we don’t live in this crazy, alternate snail-mail-obsessed world, and our compulsive email and social-media checking is considered pretty normal behavior in our society.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to get back to Twitter.
