President Obama isn’t a full-time comedian, but Jerry Seinfeld believes he got off enough funny lines during his oval office tenure to qualify for being on “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.” The fact that he’s the most powerful person in the free world may help matters, too.
The other guest on the season seven premiere episode is a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray with the split rear window. The silver blue example features a 327 cubic inch V-8 engine and knock-off wheels, which Seinfeld considers as the coolest Corvette ever.
Traditionally, Seinfeld and the guest will drive to a coffee shop or restaurant in the feature car for an often hilarious chat, but things had to happen a little differently for this episode. A famous comedian driving the president off of White House grounds isn’t kosher with the Secret Service, causing Obama and Seinfeld to instead retreat to the White House staff break room.
Following their talk, it’s Obama’s turn to get behind the wheel of the Corvette. It’s only around the White House grounds again, but the president manages to lay into the throttle a little and squawk the tires.
“Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” continues its seventh season with guest stars that include Steve Martin, Will Ferrell and Kathleen Madigan riding in vehicles like a Porsche 911, BMW 2002 and a Plymouth Superbird.
