ASP.Net Core MVC is a cross-platform web application development framework that leverages the benefits of the ASP.Net Core runtime while at the same time enabling you to design applications that are testable and maintainable and can be developed and deployed over multiple platforms. Note that MVC Core doesn't need IIS for hosting — you can host MVC Core applications in Kestrel or they can even be self-hosted.

ASP.Net MVC Core is open source, has built-in support for dependency injection and is extensible. Note that the MVC framework helps you to isolate the concerns in your applications and build applications that are easier to test and maintain. The salient features in MVC Core include routing, model binding, model validation, dependency injection, filters, areas, web APIs, strongly typed views, tag helpers, and view components. Letrsquo;s now take a look at each of these features in brief. We will revisit each of these in later posts here.To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here

Microsoft has made major strides to take its development tools out of a Windows-only world, both for the applications you can create and the platforms they run on.

The open source .Net development tools that Microsoft got when it acquired Xamarin two years ago are key to Microsoftrsquo;s cross-platform transformation. That transformation is very much evident today, with much of the Xamarinrsquo;s tools folded into Microsoftrsquo;s Visual Studio development platform over the last year, and its MacOS Xamarin Studio rebranded as Visual Studio for Mac with additional features for working with Azure and .Net Core.[ Review: Visual Studio 2017 is the best ever. | First look: Visual Studio for Mac. | Keep up with hot topics in programming with InfoWorldrsquo;s App Dev Report newsletter. ]To support Microsoft CEO Satya Nadellarsquo;s focus on an “intelligent cloud and intelligent edgerdquo; mission, Xamarinrsquo;s cross-platform development strategy is key to delivering the edge elements of that vision. Microsoftrsquo;s mobile strategy has pivoted away from its own Windows Mobile OS (at least for now), and the company is now concentrating on delivering applications for the previously alien platforms iOS and Android.
Itrsquo;s a shift that also means bringing its developer ecosystem to new platforms – especially if itrsquo;s to deliver on its Project Rome vision of applications and content that migrate from device to device, letting your work follow you wherever you go.To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here
Bleszinski says developing for keyboard/mouse and console leads to “balance issues.”

While it’s fashionable to dump on C and C++ for being old school, they’re still hard to beat for sheer speed or power. But what’s often lacking is modern toolchain elements like a package manager. Golang, Rust, Node.js, Ruby, and Python all have standard-issue ways to perform package management; C and C++ don’t—and that’s where third-party tools have an opportunity to step in.One recent example is Buckaroo, which comes from LoopPerfect—creator of an interactive C++ development environment called Jyt.

Buckaroo is an open source system for adding packages from a managed repository to a C/C++ project “in a controlled and cross-platform way.” Cross-platform here means Windows, Linux, and MacOS, using whatever compiler is available. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here

Mozilla has submitted a proposal to the the Khronos Group, the stewards of the OpenGL and the more recent Vulkan graphics APIs, for a next-generation web graphics API it calls Obsidian.
